 Frequently Asked Questions
What the heck is a URL rotator?
It's a program running in the background at Plug-In Profit Rotator that allows you to set up a list of website addresses and rotate them by directing your visitors to a single URL (referred to as the "portal URL").
How many URLs am I allowed to enter into the rotator?
Each portal URL can rotate up to 999 destination URLs.
O.K. I got the 999 part, but what's a portal URL?
A portal URL is simply the single web address (provided for you in your member control panel area) that your visitors pass through to get to the actual websites that you've set up in rotation.
I can't log in to my Free PIPR account. What's up with that?
Free PIPR members actually have 2 username/password combos. This is explained in the free member "Welcome Message". The first username/password combo is the same for all free PIPR members and is required to access the Free Member login page. When you get to the login page you will enter the username/password combo you created for yourself when you initially set up your free PIPR account. Would this be a good way to perform split-run testing?
Absolutely. You'll need to have a solid, reliable "ad tracking" service. I use ProAnalyzer, which does a great job. Let's say that you want to test the response and sales conversion for two variations of a sales page on your website. The traffic flow might look like this...
1) Before setting up your rotator, first set up tracking codes / URLs for "test site #1" and "test site #2".
2) Next, in your member control panel at Plug-In Profit Rotator, create a new rotator portal URL. We'll call it "Split-Run Test".
3) Then, "Add Destination URLs". Choose your new "Split-Run Test" portal URL, and enter the tracking URLs for "test site #1" and "test site #2" into your rotator.
4) Lastly, send boatloads of traffic to your rotator using the "Split-Run Test" portal URL address that is shown in your control panel. Watch your tracking stats, and the story will unfold right before your eyes.
Why is my portal URL
http://www.gothrive.com/url/rotator/xxxx instead of http://www.pluginprofitrotator.com/url/rotator/xxxx?
I own both domains and have installed all of the necessary programs at GoThrive.com so that your portal URL will be shorter.
My rotator portal URL is still pretty long. Can I shorten it?
You can!
As an example, the following two URLs are rotating exactly the same test sites:
http://www.gothrive.com/url/rotator/ronhutton_faqdemo (Default portal URL provided by Plug-In Profit Rotator)
http://www.gothrive.com/faq-demo/ (the subdirectory "faq-demo" simply has an index.html file that redirects visitors to the above 'default portal URL')
Click through the links and see for yourself.
I set this up in about 5 minutes using Affiliate Pagemaker, which is included here: Plug-In Profit Toolbox.
Another strategy you might want to consider is setting up a sub-domain and using a redirect file as your index file there. Host4Profit, my host for GoThrive.com and InternetMarketingPowerTools.com, has a super user-friendly control panel that allows you to very quickly set up sub-domains and redirect files.
What kinds of sites are not allowed to be used in the rotator?
You are not allowed to include any adult content, illegal content, or other rotators. We do not let you use other rotators because we allow for a virtually unlimited amount of sites, so you should not need to use them. They also make your page load slower.
Can I remove the advertisement from my rotator?
No need. Other services may place ads on your rotating pages, but Plug-In Profit Rotator does not.
